The scholars of Hadith have taken this event as a special type of mujizah (miracle) of the Holy Prophet ﷺ ، but the term mujizah, in its real sense, refers to an abnormal event shown by Allah to prove the claim of a prophet to having been sent by Him. This event took place in the very year in which the Holy Prophet ﷺ was born at Makkah, according to some traditions and the popular view among the historians. Thus their plans were foiled and thwarted. Allah destroyed the army with a flock of ordinary birds. But their plan backfired and the Divine scourge overtook them. This Surah refers to the story of the People of the Elephants who came with an army of elephants for the purpose of destroying the House of Allah in (The Holy Ka'bah) in Makkah. The surah's message of divine protection and the futility of human arrogance serves as a source of inspiration and reassurance for believers, reminding them of the ultimate authority and power of Allah over all things. ![]() It also highlights the concept of divine intervention and the ultimate triumph of faith over worldly power. ![]() Surah Al-Fil serves as a reminder of the power and protection of Allah, emphasizing the insignificance of human efforts in the face of divine will. His intention was to destroy the Kaaba, but Allah protected His sacred house by sending flocks of birds that pelted the army with stones, destroying them utterly. The surah recounts the story of Abraha, the Abyssinian viceroy of Yemen, who marched upon the Kaaba with a large army that included war elephants. The surah derives its name from the mention of the event of the army of the elephant in the first verse. ![]() It is a short chapter consisting of 5 verses and is believed to have been revealed in Makkah. Surah Al-Fil, also known as "The Elephant," is the 105th chapter of the Quran.
